Biography

Nicole Martinelli is an international award-winning visual artist and photographer, and a pioneer of the hand-painted E-painting medium original works created organically from her mind and entirely by stylus as her brush, and a touchscreen monitor as her canvas. She began as an oil painter influenced by Van Gogh and Monet, finding early success in the Chicagoland art scene, including a solo exhibition at Madame Zuzu's, where owner and musician Billy Corgan personally accepted her work. After a hiatus to address serious health issues, she returned with a new medium photography. Her photograph Travel the Skies, A Tree's Reflection earned a five-month exhibition at Hôtel de Rougemont in Gstaad, Switzerland, opening the door to her international career. Longing to paint again, she pioneered the E-painting, using a stylus as her brush and a touchscreen as her canvas; her first two E-paintings were accepted into the San Diego Museum of Art Artist Guild, juried by SFMOMA curator Nancy Lim. Represented internationally by Toolip Gallery in Vienna and closely tied to Primo Piano Living Gallery in Lecce, Italy, she has appeared with Primo Piano in Weaving Dreams 2025, Living Time 2025, Le Temple des Rêves 2025, Women's Generation 2026, and Lecce Arredo 2025 and 2026, with further exhibitions in Rome, Florence, and Barcelona through Rossocinabro Gallery. Her work has graciously appeared in over 35 juried exhibitions across Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, and the United States, including the Marblehead Arts Association Gallery (Massachusetts), Mosaic Arts District (Fairfax, Virginia), BWAC Gallery (Brooklyn), San Diego Museum of Art Artist Guild, and CORE Art Space (Colorado), and earned recognition on MSN's Top 10 Trailblazing Women of 2026 and NYC Journal's Top 20 Most Inspirational Women of 2026. Her August solo exhibition at Artifact Gallery in Manhattan marks her arrival on the New York stage, where her E-paintings and photography invite viewers into a quiet, vivid world shaped by nature, intuition, and the belief that we can weather our storms and bloom to our full potential. "I hope to inspire others to follow their dreams — you hold the pen and brush to your life story. You are limitless." — Nicole Martinelli

Artist Statement

I create to share the beauty I find in nature and the quiet comfort it offers all of us. My art has always been about feeling finding the emotion inside a flower, a field, or a fall of light, and inviting the viewer to step into that quiet, and much brighter world. I began as an oil painter, shaped by my love of Van Gogh and Monet. When serious illness made traditional painting impossible, I refused to stop seeing I turned to photography, which taught me to find grace and composition in the world exactly as it is. . I use only shifts in saturation, contrast, and color to draw out the feeling I felt in that instant, so the image carries the emotion of the moment rather than just its likeness. I am drawn to fleeting moments in time the ones that pass in a breath and my hope is to encapsulate them for everyone to enjoy, in a place where time does not exist. There, the viewer can stand inside the moment and stay as long as they wish. My longing to paint again never faded. So I built a new way to answer, my hand-painted E-painting, created stroke by stroke with a stylus on a touchscreen. Nothing is generated or digitally assembled every mark is made by my own hand. The medium is new, but the impulse behind it is the oldest one I carry. As an E-painter, I am incorporating my previous painting skills as an oil painter with my technical knowledge acquired from Digital Photography. I create my E-Paintings organically from my mind, using my stylus as my brush and my touchscreen monitor as if it were my Canvas. Having a hands on approach every step of the creative process is essential to myself as an artist. Both my photogarphy and My artworks prompt us to value nature, our environment, and to conserve, cherish and to have adeep apprecition for our natural resources as nature naturally intended. Especially in these ever changing crazy times we are living in nature is always there for us there is always a sunset to brighten out lives and a stream lake or ocean to catch our tears! As For My E-paintings they live between abstract impressionism and pure abstraction, where form dissolves into movement color and feeling. Whether I am working through my lens or painting across a screen, I am always reaching for the same thing a moment of stillness and wonder that the viewer can be comforted and rest inside. At the heart of everything I capture and paint the belief I hold close is that our life storms and irt soil of our difficult times just as nature, allow us to bloom to our full potential. If my work reminds even one person of that, and they recieve the same happiness and peace thtat I recieve from my artistic passions then my goal as an artist has been reached and has done exactly what I hoped. We all hold the pen and brush to your own story, You are limitless! - Nicole Martinelli
