Leap Between Worlds

This painting reflects the inner landscape of immigration—a moment suspended between departure and arrival, where one must leap without certainty of landing. At its center, a fragile yet determined figure rises en pointe atop an unstable, surreal creature, embodying the courage required to move forward when the ground beneath is unknown.

This leap is not only physical, but deeply emotional. It echoes my own journey of immigrating to the United States in 1996 with my children and my mother—a passage shaped by both hope and disorientation. In that moment, life became a balancing act between holding on and letting go, between memory and transformation.

The surrounding figures, reminiscent of jesters and silent observers, represent the fragmented voices encountered along the way—cultural echoes, unfamiliar norms, and the often surreal experience of adapting to a new world. They inhabit a space where logic bends, mirroring the psychological landscape of displacement.

Floating architectures and distant celestial forms evoke memories of a former life—once solid, now drifting beyond reach. The reflective, unstable surface suggests a reality that is constantly shifting, requiring trust in motion rather than certainty in place.
